Thelma Norris Christian was born on January 7, 1926 in Georgetown, GA to the parentage of the late Raleigh and Ruby King Norris..
At an early age she confessed in Christ and joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Georgetown, GA. She was educated in the Quitman County School system and attended the Kaigler Training School. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Florzell Thornton, Sr. To this union nine children were born.
Affectionately known as “Monya,” Thelma was loved by her friends, neighbors and family. She loved to cook, fish and care for her family. She faithfully served her church until her health began to decline.
On Sunday, August 8th, God said, “Well done my Good and Faithful Servant, take your rest.,” and she departed to her final resting place.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four children, Mary Ann Williams, Mildred Raymond, Patricia Ann Thornton and Florzell Thornton, Jr..
Thelma leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children, Louise (William) Wilson, Emma McFolley, Eddie Mae Braswell, Annette (Sampson) Hodge, Yvonne (Jerome) Thornton, Dorothy Billings and Shirley Brown all of Georgetown, GA, Laverne Ford of Miami, FL, Martha Wallace of Eufaula, AL; a son-in-law, Rev. Sherman Williams; 34 grandchildren; a multitude of great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Norris, Sr.; 2 special cousins; Ella Pearl McElroy and Dorothy Nottingham and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
