Susie Lee (Lewis) Rivers

Mrs. Susie L. Rivers, 92, affectionally known as “Sue-Lee” passed away on March 6, 2021 at St. Francis - Emory Healthcare in Columbus, GA. 

“Sue-Lee” was born January 19, 1929 in Quitman County to the late Mary Lee Bullard and Johnny D. Lewis, but she was raised by her grandmother Sally F. Woods. Sue-Lee was educated in Quitman County. At an early age, she married the late Eugene Rivers, Sr.  She was blessed with 12 children four who proceeded her in death: Irene (Nancy) Davis, Minnie (Mae) Rivers, Eugene (June) Rivers, Jr. and Barbara Rivers Lynn. She started work at an early age and performed domestic work for many years. She had a passion for cooking and was also admired in the community for her willingness to shelter and provide nourishment for anyone in need.  She was an unselfish, faithful, dedicated member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ft. Gaines, GA for 78 years.

Georgia B. Davis of Davie, FL, Versa M. Rivers of Hollywood, FL, Annie (Joe) Lee and Patrick (Yvonne) Rivers Sr. of Albany, GA, Audrey (Jimmy) Rivers, Donald Rivers Sr. and Gwendolyn (Manquell) Rivers all of Eufaula, AL and Freddie Rivers of Georgetown, GA. She also raised grandchildren; Karen Sheppard, Julia Rivers, Bobby (Neil) Rivers, Freddie Charles Rivers Jr. and Kayla Bouyer and great grands; Jeremy Rivers, Jermaine Rivers, and La’Sandra Monique Rivers.  One special sister-in law Shirley Lewis of Georgetown, GA and two special son-in laws, Walter L. Davis of Georgetown, GA and Leo Salley of Orlando, FL.; special friends, Katie Bell Jenkins, Lessie B. Mitchell, Deacon George McCarthy and Sister Mary McCarthy; 32 grandchildren- whom three proceeded her in death; Carol Powell, Jessie Rivers and Tawanda Rivers; 72 great-grandchildren – one proceeded her in death, DeVante Davis and 66 great-great grandchildren and 7 great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
