Sister Sallie Mae Thornton was born on December 29, 1928 to the late Charlie Mills and Elizabeth Blackmon in Shorterville, Alabama. Sister Sallie attended the Alabama School System. She was employed at Signal-Stat as a line supervisor for over 35 years in Union, New Jersey. She was one of the caregivers of Bertha Tolbert and L.C. Tolbert, Sr. Sister Sallie confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Bethel Church, Abbeville, Alabama. Sallie moved to New Jersey and joined Christ Temple Church Ministries under the leadership of her late brother, Dr. Willie C. Tolbert, Sr. Years later she returned home to Alabama and continued her membership under Christ Temple Outreach Ministries. Sister Sallie was a faithful and dutiful servant of God until her health began to fail her. She served faithfully in the Gospel Chorus, served on the kitchen committee, and assisted her brother in ministry in any way that she could. Sallie was married to Eddie Thornton of Ft. Gaines, GA. On May 28, 2021 Sallie was called home to rest. She was preceded in death by her siblings the late L.C. Tolbert, Jr., Pastor Lillie Scott, Robert Lee Mills, Dr. Willie C. Tolbert, Sr., and William Scoun Tolbert. She leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories, the children she never birthed, Bruce (Malikh) Braxton and Lachon (Dorsel) Turner; her siblings, William F. Tolbert; Evangelist Dollie (Ward) Graham, Evangelist Linnie Williams, and Willie Jewel (Isaiah) Pitts; one sister-in-love, Mother Ozzie D. Tolbert; god-children, Cheryl Blount, Ramon Norton II, her church family, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. Obituary Services Entrusted To:
