Lillie Jones Obituary

Lillie Mae Jones, cherished sister, aunt, friend, and faithful servant, passed away on July 24, 2024, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, grace, and unwavering faith. Born on October 2, 1939, in Fort Gaines, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of Corine Dense and Arthur Doughty and the sixth of nine children in the Doughty family. Her siblings—Annie George Doughty, Carolyn Doughty, Arthur Doughty, Lawrence Doughty, Robert Doughty, Charles Doughty, Lourine Hodge, and Leroy Doughty—formed a close-knit family, each contributing to the tapestry of her life.

Growing up in the nurturing embrace of Emanuel AME Church, Lillie’s faith was an integral part of her life. After graduating from Speight High School, she embarked on a new journey to New Jersey, where she began her professional career at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark. As a diligent Billing Clerk, she exemplified a commitment to excellence and compassion.

Lillie's path then led her to Gardenia, California, where she found fulfillment working as a financial counselor at Brotman Medical Center. Her dedication and kindness significantly impacted the lives of her patients, earning her respect and admiration.

Upon retiring, Lillie moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to be closer to her family. There, she became a beloved member of Enon Baptist Church, where she formed deep, meaningful connections and was embraced by a supportive and loving community.

Lillie’s devotion to her family was a cornerstone of her life. She was adored by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will remember her for her warmth, and the joy she brought to every family gathering. Her passion for Scrabble was well-known, and her competitive spirit and cheerful demeanor made every game a delight.

Her radiant smile and compassionate heart were hallmarks of her personality, and her kindness touched everyone she met.

Lillie Mae Jones will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

With heartfelt gratitude and love, we celebrate the life of Lillie Mae Jones. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she made the world a better place through her grace and love.
