Laura Lee Grier was born on June 13, 1926 to the late Clayton Upshaw and Anna Liza Willis in Morris Station (Morris), Georgia. She was known by many as “Mama Laura”.
Sis. Grier confessed her faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member of the Morris Baptist Church and remained a devoted member until her late elderly years. She was educated at Morris Rural School. “Mama Laura” was known for her great cooking skills and telling old stories of her upbring in Morris. She enjoyed travelling when she was in good health. She loved her family.
Laura Lee transitioned peacefully on September 21, 2020 at her home in Georgetown, Georgia. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert Grier, two sons: Willard (Wim) Clark Grier (1989) and most recently Henry Clayton Grier (2020); and several brothers and sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memories eight children, to include 4 daughters, Ruby Grier of Georgetown, GA, Linda Petway (Festus) of Zebulon, NC, Anna Edwards of Ft. Valley, GA, and Laura A. Grier of Laurel, MD; 4 sons: Robert Grier, Jr. (Mary) and Willie O. Grier (Oddie) of Eufaula, AL; James A. Grier of Albany, GA, and Floyd Grier of Augusta, GA: 2 sister-in-laws, Emma Bell Lee of Macon, GA and Sally Upshaw of Waycross, GA, 2 special nieces; Sara Nell and Betty Upshaw of Georgetown, GA; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and special family friends- The Sparks.
