Sis. Katie Bell Jenkins was born on August 28, 1944, to the late Albert and Ella Jenkins. She received her education at Charles R. Drew High School in Winter Garden, FL.
Katie Bell, as she was affectionately known, joined Bethlehem Baptist Church of Winter Garden, FL at a young age, under the leadership of Rev. Frank Wilder. She worked for a local neighborhood store while in high school, and Mercy Hospital for more than 20yrs. She then left Winter Garden and relocated to Georgetown, GA to care for her ailing father. She joined Mt. Zion Clay, where she remained a faithful member, sang in the choir, and became President of the Floral Club. She substituted at Quitman Co. Elementary School for some time, and retired from Phoebe Putney Home Health after 29 years.
Katie Bell was a loving sister, mother, grandmother (Nana), and devoted aunt. Her heart was pure, and her loyalty unwavering. She lived a life of service to her family and community. Her wise words and teachings will be greatly missed. She had a knack for fashion and loved her big, beautiful church hats.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Stacey Gardener; three sisters, Dora Dell, Lora Ann, and Marnita Jenkins; and two brothers, John Albert and Frankie Jenkins.
She leaves to cherish her memories her great niece, whom she adopted and raised as her own, Shakira Jenkins, a daughter Taralyn (Eric) Corbett, two sisters, Nora Nell King and Andrea Jenkins; five brothers, Freddie Jenkins, Ron (Margie) Jenkins, Richard (Evelyn) Jenkins, Omega (Tasha) Jenkins, and Anthony (Jackie) Jenkins; two uncles, Oliver Jenkins and Ernest Jenkins; two aunts, Jessie Jenkins and Bertha Lynn; six grandchildren, Bobby Gardner, Jr., Serdearia Scott, Juwon Gardner, Crystal Gardner, Destin (Keshawn) Scott and Eric (Demond) Corbett, II; seven great grandchildren; five very close friends, with whom she shared a special bond, Bernice Cherry, Clara Johnson, Mamie Ware, Thelma Christian, and Mildred Rivers Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
