On April 22, 2022, the one that was so dear to us, Jerry L. Alexander, was called from labor to reward. He was especially beloved by his family and in-laws and will be greatly missed.
Jerry was born on November 24, 1947, the second of eight children. He grew up mostly in Fort Gaines, GA, but often migrated with his parents to south Florida for crop season. At an early age he joined and was baptized at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Clay County.
A very bright young man who did well in school, he graduated from Speight High School in 1965. After spending some time in Job Corp., he received his bachelors from Albany State College and M.Ed. from Valdosta State College in Special Education. He was an orator who was often invited to speak or do a recitation on various church programs and family gatherings.
On December 30, 1972, Jerry wed Mary Helen Cooper and this union was blessed with four boys. He loved family and his two grandboys were a great joy.
Jerry spent several years serving the youth in Dougherty and Clay County School systems before moving into the private sector. He later retired from General Motors after working many years for Delco Remy/Delphi in Albany and Chamblee, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie M. and Corene Alexander to whom he was very devoted.
He leaves to cherish many wonderful memories, his wife and caregiver Mary Helen, his sons Alphonso (Nafessa) of Atlanta, GA, Alonzo of Maryland, Antonio and Antwan of Albany Georgia; his grandsons Aaron and Jonathan of Atlanta, GA; his siblings Willie James of Fayetteville, NC, Charles (Marsha) of Kennesaw, GA, David (Mary) of Alexandria, AL, Gary (Tracie) of Coleman, GA, Cynthia (Greg) Renfroe of Pembroke Pines, FL, Lynthia of Conyers, GA and Coretha Laurent of Dothan, AL; his in-laws Glenda Joeanne Cooper of Albany, GA, Charles (Carolyn) Cooper of Damascus, GA, Kelly Cooper, Jr. of Bluffton, GA, Ruby Cooper of Fort Gaines, GA, Curtis (Cheryl) Cooper of Miami, FL and Lorianne (Dewayne) Strafford of Blakely, GA; six aunts, three uncles, seven aunts-in-law, three uncles-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
