Georgia Jackson Obituary

Our beloved Georgia Lee Grubbs Jackson, 92, of Shorterville, Alabama made her heavenly transition on January 3, 2024. Georgia was born on August 2,1931 in Shorterville, Alabama to the late Issace Grubbs and Willie Bell Peppers Grubbs. Georgia was the fourth child born of 13 children. Georgia was a loving and caring family woman, known for her warm personality and strong devotion to her loved ones.

Georgia was educated by the Clay County School System of Fort Gaines, Georgia.  She gave her life to Christ and became a member of the Greater Friendship AME Church in Shorterville, Alabama where she found solace and spiritual guidance.

Although her family roots were in Shorterville, Alabama, Georgia relocated to Newark, New Jersey for better job opportunities. Newark is where she married her late husband Lynburgh Jackson. Their blessed union produced six children, Charles, Cynthia, Barry, Gail, Lyndale and Tyrone.

Georgia was employed at Remco Toy Company, Presto Lock Company, and a group home where she nurtured young children. One of Georgia’s favorite pastimes was cooking for family and friends. After retiring and perfecting her cooking skills Georgia became an entrepreneur and opened a restaurant called Georgia’s Deli in Newark. Her menu consisted of the best soul food and deli sandwiches. Georgia also baked delicious cakes, pastries, and bean pies. Customers would drive miles to purchase her bean pie.

In 2012, Georgia retreated to Shorterville to reside on the property that was given to her by her parents. During that time, she attended church, read her bible, traveled, and spent quality time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Georgia was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Jackson (Clairetha) and Barry Jackson (Rosemary);  a daughter, Lyndale Jackson; a grandson, Shelton Jackson; and six siblings, Willie James, Earnest, Curtis, John Alex, Minni, and Issac Jr.

Georgia leaves behind to cherish her memories three children; Cynthia Jackson of Minneapolis, MN, Gail Jackson of Hillsborough, NJ, and Tyrone Jackson (Elizabeth) of Abbeville, AL;  13 grandchildren, two who were devoted to their grandmother, Rahim Jackson (Idressa) of Shorterville, AL, and Deidre Jackson of Minneapolis, MN; six siblings, Emma Duncan of Shorterville, AL, Louise Barnes of Miami, FL, Willie Grubbs of Donalsonville, GA, Viola McKenzie of Shorterville, AL, Lela Lewis of Somerset, NJ, and Virginia Thompson (Bobby), Decatur, GA; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in law; several great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Special thanks to her niece, Cynthia James, and the Covenant Care Hospice staff for their insight, knowledge, and emotional support.

Georgia Lee Grubbs Jackson will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
