Erline Smith

Mrs. Erline Smith, 101 years of age, passed away on March 17, 2022.  Mrs. Erline Smith was born on August 19, 1920 in Sylvester GA, to the late James and Estella Smith.  She was the oldest of 4 children, 2 preceded her in death.  Erline was educated in the Clay County School system in Georgia.

Erline married the late Mandeville “Sam” Smith in 1939 and were blessed with 5 children from this union.  Erline professed her life to Christ at an early age.  At a young age she joined New Hope A.M.E. Church.  She loved working in the church and cherished praising the Lord.  Serving on several committees, Superintendent of Sunday School, Treasurer, she taught Sunday School and sung in the choir. She always enjoyed helping others and had a passion for it.

Erline served in her community where she devoted her time as a poll worker on Election Day.

She served in her church and community for many years until her health prevented her services.

Ms. Smith loved to read her bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face.  She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, always thinking of others first.  “To know her was to love her.” As many would say “she was the sweetest person I have ever met”.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Smith.

Erline is survived by her loving children, Estella Flewellen of Union, NJ, Cynthia Smith of Fort Gaines, GA, Rachel Somerville of Philadelphia, PA, and Delma (Joseph) Nuckles of Powder Springs, GA;10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great, great grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Smith, Fort Gaines, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
