On the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, December 25, 1944, the family of Sylvester Jackson and Rosie M. Jackson was blessed with a baby boy, and they named him Eddie Lee Jackson.
He didn’t have much education so he left school to work at Walter F. George Dam, in which he helped to build. Later in life, he was employed with Hartley Construction. He worked there until his health declined. The Hartleys continued to be a family to him.
He attended Bethel A.M.E. Church at an early age and he kept the faith. His saying was “God will take care of me.” Eddie fought a good fight.
He loved children but never had any of his own. He was part of the village in assisting with raising his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ida Bell Jackson, and one brother, Elijah Jackson.
He will be missed by two sisters, Rosie J. Prise of Fort Gaines, GA and Ethel M. Hall of Philadelphia, PA; one sister-in-law, Dora Jackson of Cocoa, FL; nieces, Toni (Arrie) Bateman and Fatima Atwell of Philadelphia, PA., Alysia (Andre) of Loganville, GA., Nicole (Walter) Williams of Shorterville, AL, Faith Jackson of Cocoa, FL, Rena Nelson of Fort Gaines; nephews, Christopher (Dina) Jackson, Demetrius (Daviedra) of Rockledge FL. , Ricky (Debra) Porter of Fort Valley GA., Arwin (Salita) Littleton of Fort Gaines GA, Kevin Prise of Houston TX, Jeremy Prise of Fort Gaines GA, and Gilbert Hall of Philadelphia PA; bonus sister, Pearlie Faison of Fort Gaines GA; extended family, Mike(Jackie) Hartley and George (Starla) Hartley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and sympathizing friends.
