Delores Yvonne Williams was born on June 13, 1948 in Quitman County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Johnell G. Williams, Thedora Mandeville Williams and LaDessa “Punch” Thornton.
She attended public schools in Hartford, Connecticut. Delores is a graduate of Chamberlayne Jr. College in Boston, Massachusetts, Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut and Strayer University in Washington, DC.
Delores retired from the Washington Post Newspaper in 2003. She eventually relocated to Macon, Georgia to be closer to her mother.
At an early age, Delores accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Macon, Georgia and a member of the Bethel C.M.E. Church Women’s Ministry, also in Macon.
She was a Lifetime Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a Charter Member of the Fort Washington Alumnae Chapter in Fort Washington, Maryland.
Delores departed this life on Friday, March 4, 2022 in Columbus, Georgia.
She is survived by her brother, Eric Thornton; two nephews, Antwain Bell and Eric Frank Thornton; a great nephew, A.J. Bell; a great niece, Pharrah Sage Thornton; two aunts, Agnes Glance and Minnie Williams; two uncles, Cleo (Betty) Thornton and Sam (Beverly) Thornton; a host of loving cousins and other sorrowful relatives and friends.
