Mr. Clarence Grimsley, Sr. age 94, was born on November 28, 1926 in Henry County, Shorterville, Alabama and passed away peacefully Sunday, September 5, 2021, in Shorterville, Alabama at his home with family. He was the son of the late George and Mariah Johnson Grimsley. “Yiden, Big Chief, Big Kang, Sutton,” as he was known by family and friends, leaves in bereavement his three sons; Clarence Grimsley, Jr. (Barbara), Myron Grimsley, and Kenny L. Grimsley (Phyllis) all of Shorterville, Alabama and one daughter Dr. L. Faye Grimsley of New Orleans, Louisiana, Grandchildren Tamieka Grimsley of Boston, Massachusetts, LaShonda Grimsley of Shorterville, Alabama, Jamillah Allen Danzey, Adam D. Grimsley,II, Brandon Grimsley, of Abbeville, Alabama, and Daniel F. Grimsley of Prince Georges County, Maryland. Great Grandchildren Jayla Allen and Darrion “DJ” Danzey of Abbeville, Alabama. One surviving Sister Hattie Grimsley Williams of Syracuse, New York, two Brothers James “Poke” Grimsley of Shorterville, Alabama, and Eddie C. Grimsley (VIrginia) of Miami, Florida, One Brother in Law, Richard Lewis of Hillside, New Jersey. Sister in-laws Vivian Lewis of Miami, Florida, and Vatice Lewis (Rosedale, Maryland).

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Clementine Lewis Grimsley, one daughter, Elaine Grimsley and one son Adam D. Grimsley and is survived by a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.

He joined Greater Friendship AME church at an early age. He worked hard all of his life since an early age and taught himself how to support his family by farming, fishing and hunting. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands in Asia. He enjoyed playing baseball, watching sports, fishing and hunting and spending quality time with his family and friends.

Our loved one has left this earthly body and stepped into eternity. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. You are now free from the pain. May you have everlasting life.
