Charles Lee Thornton was born to the parentage of the late B.J. Thornton Sr. and Maggie Mae Cook on January 17, 1957, in Fort Gaines, Georgia. He graduated from Clay County High School and served in the United States Army. After his military service, he attended Wallace Community College. Charlie earned the designation as an electrician and became a skilled worker who excelled in carpentry. His carpentry skills are evident throughout the family home. For the latter years of his life, he had a career as a truck driver.
He joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist church at an early age and remained committed to his faith until he was called home to eternal rest on May 10, 2022, in the beloved residence that he helped his father build. Charlie was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Donald Thornton, and 2 sisters, Catherine Thornton and Caroline Daniels.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: 2 sons, Charles (Jennifer) Thornton of Fort Gaines, GA, and Michael (Felicia-fiancé) Thornton of Dothan, AL, 1 daughter, Shartavia Thornton of Apopka, FL, and 1 stepdaughter, Jakia (Christopher) Poythress of Snellville, GA: 2 brothers Richard (Marie) Thornton of Eufaula, AL, B.J. Thornton of Fort Gaines, GA, and a stepbrother, Willie C. Cooke of Hartford Connecticut; 3 sisters, Marjorie Hilton of Baltimore, MD, Annie Govan and Gladys Thornton both of Fort Gaines, GA; 9 grandchildren ,and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
