Obituary

Bettye Jackson Cudgel  was born on April 17, 1935 to the parents of Plass and Dora Jackson in Fort Gaines, Ga.  She was called home on Sunday, January 1, 2023 Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Albany Georgia.

Bettye was married to Johnnie C. Cudgel III for 62 years and to this union one child was born.

She was a active member of Springfield Baptist Church until her health began to fail, and served as Sunday School secretary, choir member, and the kitchen committee.  She is most well known for her potato salad.

She was a Honor Graduate of Asbury Speight High School Class of 1955.

She was employed  for 42 years with Enrichment Services and  retired in 2006 upon learning she would become a grandmother, a secondary factor was that she would also have to use a computer.

Affectionately known to many as Aunt Betty, she was always willing to lend a helping hand and was always willing to give her last.  Her doors were always open to anyone and she made sure all who visited were full when they left.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings;  Lathey Odom, Johnnie Mae Smith, Claudette Ridley, Ellen Jackson, Emma Lizzie Banks, Julius Jackson, Plass Jackson Jr., Willie Frank Jackson, Samuel Jackson, Leonard Jackson, and Fritz Jackson; and 2 nephews that were close to her heart, James M. Daniels and Robert “Peter” Shaw.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband, Johnnie  Cudgel III; a daughter, Monica Cudgel (Timothy) Hudson, and a grandson,  Timothy Cudgel Hudson of Hamilton, Georgia; two nieces who were more like daughters, Betty (John) Jones of Albany Georgia, and Jacqueline (Curtis) Noble of Columbus, Georgia;  a grand niece Brianca Noble, and a great grand nephew Kayden Jaxon Carter both of Lawrenceville, Georgia; a  brother, James Lee Jackson of Massilion OH; a brother-in-law, Charles “Ed” Cudgel of Fort Gaines; a sister-in-law,   Veronice (Charles) Farley of Hiram, Georgia; six God-Children, Homer Smith of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Carletha Bonner, Skylar Baker and Anijha Baker of Fort Gaines, and Tonya Johnson Noel and Darnelll   Harvey of Atlanta, Georgia; 4 beloved friends, Ruth Pete Bussey of   Miami, FL, Georgia (Clarence) Glaze of Union Spring AL, Minnie (Holloway) Smith, and Betty Sue Ricks of Fort Gaines and a host of  nieces, nephews, and friends.
