Bertha Smith Obituary

Obituary

Mrs. Bertha Mae Smith of Fort Gaines, GA passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023.  She was born in Fort Gaines, GA to the parentage of the late Estelle Tucker Smith and Jimmy Smith.  She was united in holy matrimony to the late Norman Smith and to this union five girls and three boys were born.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Earline (Sam) Smith, two brothers, Willie (Irma) Smith and James (Carrie) Smith,  four daughters, Juliet Smith, Maime Jefferies, Luvernia (Leroy) Doughty and Rowena (Marion) Norris, and a son. Robert    Norman Smith.

Bertha was a faithful wife, devoted mother, a very caring and loving grandmother and a good homemaker.  Her mild and quiet spirit was evident in life as she dealt with those whom she came in contact with.

Bertha was often called “Mudear” because she was dear to all who knew her.  More importantly, she  became dear to our loving God, Jehovah.  By studying the bible, she expressed a deep love for God and wanted to do His will .  Therefore, she dedicated her life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1986.  She enjoyed Talking about Jehovah and telling people about the paradise.  This truth about being able to live on the earth again brought her much happiness.

She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Carolyn (Donnell) Varner of Clio, AL; two sons, Fred (Juanita) Smith of Cuthbert, GA and Theodis Smith of Fort Gaines, GA; nine grandchildren, Anthony Doughty of Fort Gaines, GA, Dexter (Dee) Doughty of Rex, GA, Tracy Smith of Fort Gaines, GA, Fredrick Smith of Newnan, GA, Dorrie Smith of Fort Gaines, GA, Hakenna  Norris of Atlanta, GA, Willie Smith of Cuthbert, GA, LaVelle   Varner of Houston, TX and  Keana Varner of Eufaula, AL; nine great grandchildren; 11 great, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
