Bennie Jackson Jr. affectionately known as “Papa Ben,” was born July 12, 1939, in Fort Gaines, Georgia to the parentage of the late Tommie Lee Rivers and Bennie Jackson, Sr. He second oldest of three siblings.
At an early age he confessed in Christ and became a member of the New Hope AME, later moving his membership to Greater Friendship AME. Church in Shorterville, AL. He attended and graduated from Speight High School in 1960.
Bennie always wore a smile, and everyone looked forward to seeing him and to being around him. He was employed at Great Southern Wood starting on July 27, 1978, and retiring January 1, 2013. Also, he loved being in the annual Abbeville Christmas Parade pulling his unique float that he made throughout the year.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angelene, four sisters, Mildred, Willie M., Vernice, and Estella.
On Thursday, June 30, 2022, he peacefully and quietly entered eternal rest at Columbus Hospice.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories to a daughter, Patsy (Barry) Williams of Shorterville, Al; a grandson, Jonathon (Shaniya) Williams of Birmingham, Al; a brother, Herman Jackson, Sr. of Fort Gaines, Ga; a sister, Eva M. Canty of Allentown, Pa; and a special friend Jimmy Rane, and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sympathizing friends
