God dispatched an angel of glory Friday, March 17, 2023 to take Arthur Jackson Johnson home to eternal life. He departed this life with peace in his heart and his body at rest.
Arthur was the second child born to the late Ms. Bessie Smith Johnson Jones Taylor and Charlie B. Johnson on April 26, 1938. His sister Mary Alexander proceeded him in death.
He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem AME Church in Cairo, GA. Upon relocating to Ft. Gaines GA, he joined Brown Chapel AME Church.
After graduating from Washington High School in Cairo, Arthur attended Fort Valley State College, now Fort Valley State University, and graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1961. He served in the Army from 1962-1964. He began his teaching career in 1964 in Fort Gaines, GA. Arthur received his Master’s Degree in Agriculture from Tuskegee University in 1975. He taught for 37 years, first at Speight High School and Clay County High School in Fort Gaines and then at Randolph-Clay High School in Cuthbert, GA.
In 1966, Arthur married the love of his life, Elizabeth Vaughn. They were blessed with two children, Samuel Tyrel and Salondia Teresa.
He was a member of the Georgia Educators Association, Randolph County Retired Educators Association, Fort Valley State Alumni Association and the Past Master of Masonic Moonlight Lodge #72.
Arthur had a heart of gold and would stop and talk to anybody. He never met a stranger. He could fix and build pretty much anything including, but not limited to, lawn mowers, chairs, microwaves, tables, the extension on his house and toys for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Elizabeth; son, Samuel (Kimberly); daughter, Salondia; granddaughter Tasha; three great grandsons, Drevryon, Devreon and Donovan; two sisters Mary Ann and Charlie Mae Johnson of Gainesville, FLA; four sisters-in-law Cora Vaughn, Mary Dozier, Minnie Johnson and Emma Martin; brother-in-law Herbert (Mamie) Vaughn and numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews. His honorary sons are Jimmy Jackson, Vincent Johnson, Floyd (Pap) Hodge and LaRon Pete.
